traffic starts to hum

kathleen haskard

i'm walkin' in my sleep barefoot on the pavement
streetlights goin' out all over town
resolutions made and all the good intentions
go swirling down the drain with the rain

now i lay me down to
sleep would be a fine thing
but sleep don't come
it doesn't come
doesn't come

you're talkin' in your sleep forgive the unforgiven
secrets in the corners of your mouth
if you connect the dots the story would be written
and all the roads you're on headed south

the birds out in the dark
get louder as the day dawns
the traffic starts to hum
starts to hum
starts to hum

now i lay me down to
sleep would be a fine thing
but sleep don't come
it doesn't come
doesn't come

traffic hums
